Chapter 01
When PDR is the right call, and when it is not
Paintless dent repair works on qualifying dents where the original paint is unbroken. The metal is worked back into shape from behind, and because no finish is disturbed there is nothing to match afterwards.
It is not a universal shortcut. Whether it applies is decided by the paint, the depth of the dent and where on the panel it sits, and that is decided by looking rather than by preference.

Hail, door dings and shallow dents
The damage PDR suits best is the everyday kind: hail damage across a hood or roof, door dings from a parking lot, and shallow dents that have not stretched or cracked the finish.
Hail in particular is worth asking about, because a car can carry a great many small dents and still have completely intact paint. That is the case PDR was made for.
Chapter 03
Keeping the paint that came on the car
The real argument for PDR is preservation. Original factory paint is the finish the vehicle was built with, and once it is gone it cannot be put back, only replaced with a match.
Where the original finish can be preserved, we recommend preserving it. That is a better outcome for the car than any refinish, however good the refinish is.
The inspection that says no
Careful inspection confirms when conventional body repair is the safer choice, and we will tell you when that is the case even though it is the longer job.
A dent forced through PDR when the paint will not take it comes back as cracking or a high spot later. Being told plainly which method your dent needs is worth more than being told the one you were hoping for.
Where PDR is not the right method we say so, and the conventional repair is backed for as long as you own the vehicle.
